How to Write Vertically in Documents - Vertical Text Direction

Vertical writing is useful for creating traditional Chinese character displays or vertical banners. The method for setting it up varies by application.
Vertical Writing in Hangul (HWP)
1. Menu: Page > Page Setup (Ctrl+F7)
2. Under the "Page Direction" tab, check "Vertical Writing"
3. Click OK
4. Text will now be entered vertically
Partial vertical writing:
1. Drag to select the text you want to write vertically
2. Format > Text Direction
3. Select vertical direction
Vertical Writing in MS Word
Using a text box:
1. Insert > Text Box
2. Draw a text box
3. Select the text box > right-click
4. Choose "Text Direction"
5. Select a vertical direction option
※ Word does not directly support full-page vertical writing
Vertical Writing in PowerPoint
1. Insert > Text Box
2. Enter your text
3. Select the text box
4. Shape Format > Text Options > Text Box
5. Under "Text Direction", select vertical
Alternatively:
1. Select the text box
2. Hold the Shift key and drag the rotation handle

1. Insert > Drawing > New
2. Create a text box
3. Tools > Rotate > Rotate 90°
