iPhones are water-resistant, but water can pool in the speaker grille, causing muffled or quieter sound. You can effectively remove water using specific frequency sounds.
Water Eject via Shortcut (Most Effective)
1. Search for and download the "Water Eject" shortcut in Safari
2. Open the Shortcuts app and run "Water Eject"
3. Tap the Start button
4. A low-frequency sound will play for about 10 seconds to expel the water
5. Point the speaker downward while running it for better results

Manual Water Removal
1. Wipe the iPhone dry with a soft cloth
2. Hold it with the speaker grille facing down and gently shake
3. Lightly tap the speaker area with your palm
4. Stand it upright in a well-ventilated area
※ Do not use a hair dryer or compressed air
Prevention Tips
- Turn off the device immediately after water exposure
- Do not plug in a charging cable (let it dry for at least 5 hours)
- Store in an airtight container with silica gel packets
- Use a waterproof case when at a pool or the ocean
Additional Tips
- The Water Eject shortcut also works on Apple Watch
- If sound still seems off after water eject, wait 24 hours and try again
- iPhone 7 and later models support IP67/IP68 water resistance, but it is not perfect
- If your iPhone was exposed to salt water (e.g., seawater), visit an Apple Authorized Service Center right away
